Driftwood have recently been holding auditions to find a new bass player after the departure of Jon Davies, and are delighted to announce the appointment of a new band member. Dave Sutherland, from Birmingham, joins the band this week. Dave has lots of experience of playing in bands, having misspent his youth playing rock and roll. But he's never played in a band quite like Driftwood before!

The new Driftwood CD "Out of the Blue" is released today. It was recorded at Scadge studios in Telford and contains a mix of original, traditional and "covers" material. Of course Driftwood don't really "cover" songs - they take them apart and re-assemble them the Driftwood way.

Soon this website will be updated with links for you to buy the CD online or download it. In the meantime, you can listen to extracts on the music page, and buy by phoning Dave on 01952 222619, or emailing the band.

Driftwood's funky bass player, Jon Davies, has decided to leave the band. We wish Jon good luck in his future musical projects. The band are now seeking a replacement, so if you are a bass player, particularly a double bass player, please contact us.

Did you know you can download Driftwood tracks on iTunes? Tracks from the first album, "The Water is Wide" are available now. Why not put them on your iPod? The new album "Out of the Blue" will be available shortly.

Driftwood are currently in the studio recording tracks for a new CD. They are using Scadge studios in Telford (see the links page) and are very satisfied with the results so far.

Driftwood are now a five-piece. Following Joe Nunn's triumphal debut with the band at The Edge in Much Wenlock, Driftwood have decided to augment their new sound further by adding a bass player. So there's a big welcome for Jon Davies on Bass Guitar. Jon will make his debut at the Norbury Junction festival on 6th May.

As a result of some very enthusiastic reviews from GarageBand.com members, "Parrots in the Kitchen" will be Track of the Day at GarageBand.com. "Parrots" is one of a number of guitar duets that Ali and Dave play live when Diane is resting her voice. Composed by Dave it is dedicated to Jan Martin who used to run the kitchen Folk Club in Ironbridge. Anyone who has visited her wonderful kitchen will understand the title. The track is taken from Dave's forthcoming solo album "Feckless Eric".

For 24 hours on Saturday, the 24th of March, 2007 (PST) "Parrots in the Kitchen" will be featured on GarageBand.com's Folk front page. The address for this page will be:

Driftwood have just recruited a new member. Joe, who plays fiddle, is currently rehearsing with the band and will make his debut on March 23rd at the Edge in Much Wenlock. The band's sound is much fuller and richer with this new addition. More details about Joe will apear on the Bio page as soon as we can stop him playing long enough to tell us more about himself....

Driftwood's first studio album has been released. Entitled 'The Water is Wide' it is now available by contacting the band, or at gigs, or online by following the links on the 'buy' page of this website.
